Movie: Bullet Train Explosion (2025)

This movie is the remake of the 1975 movie. I have not watched the old one. Actually, I did not intend to watch this movie either. But then I saw a promotional video on YouTube Short and it looked really interesting.

The storyline followed a Shinkansen Hayabusa No. 60 from Shin-Aomori to Tokyo, which was rigged with explosives that will explode if the train speed went below 100km/h. The story then followed the attempt to rescue all passengers and crews onboard.

The story overall is good and I think the movie is very well-made. With full cooperation from JR East, many train operating details are pretty spot on to my knowledge.

I also understand that many things are also made unrealistic to enhance the movie enjoyability. For example, all track switches scenes are pretty unrealistic – they usually cannot be operated that fast.

But something that stands out to me is usually the wide-shot of the train. Most of the time, the train looks way too fast for a 120km/h. The switch at Shin-Aomori station isn’t even in a correct position during the train initial departure. And many cuts are from different parts of the train line than where they are supposed to be.

Still, I find the overall movie really enjoyable and has a very good pacing. It could be a theatrical release. Instead, it’s a Netflix production.

PS. I think the English subtitle dropped too many hard-to-translate nuances.

PS2. The train driver, portrayed by NON, looked so much like Takino Yumiko in JR East uniform.
