I have been using Gandi as my primary domain name registrar for quite a long time, even though they are generally pricier than their competitors. Because I am confidence in their service, support, and longevity.
Though when Cloudflare launched Cloudflare Domain, I transferred all supported domains to Cloudflare. However, only one domain remains left on Gandi. This domain: innocen.at
.at
is an Austria ccTLD. Not many registrars support ccTLD of European country (perhaps owning to GDPR and other regulations). So, this domain is still on Gandi.
I just saw today that Gandi has been bought in 2023. This alone makes me wanted to stop using them. But I still can’t find a suitable place for the .at
domain name.
In 2024 Gandi has raised the domain renewal price by a lot it’s funny. .com
domain cost €11 per year to register, but €31.98 per year if you are renewing. What is even happening.
But I just found a loophole (?). Due to my own problem, I forgot to renew this domain. It expired earlier today, and needed to be restored. Normally the restore price is much higher than renewal price (€50 for .com
).
However, for .at
, the price are as follows:
- Registration: €18 per year
- Renewal: €40 per year
- Restore: €16.15 (which include 1 year extension)
Um… I think if I am okay with domain not accessible for a day or two, letting the domain lapse and restore seems like the best option?
