I was overcharged by a taxi meter today.
I was hailing taxi from my home to my workplace, Chulalongkorn University. I have taken this route many times, and know that the distance should be around 6-7km and the fare should be around 90-110 bahts depend on how bad the traffic is.
The total fare was 147 bahts and the distance shown on the meter was 15.3km. I didn’t want to make a fuss, so I paid. But I did report the ride to the relevant authority.
I realised only a few minutes in that the meter isn’t running normally. Upon closer inspection I see that the car has broken speedometer. Sometimes it runs wildly up to 200km/h so that’s probably why the distance on the meter went up that much.
I asked another taxi in the evening, and the driver said that there are no way that driver wouldn’t realise that there’s something wrong.
