I was the head judge at the 2024 ICPC National Round at Chulalongkorn University. Here are some thoughts:
- Students nowadays don’t like to read. We have a full rules and conducts on the website, but some people were still caught by surprise that they need to bring their reference material to the practise session.
- This was the first ICPC in Thailand in quite a while and understandably people are rusty, but I am disappointed by the overall results.
- There was a meeting of coaches. It was really productive and leave me hopeful for the future. It really seems to kickstarted the ICPC in Thailand post-COVID in the way I don’t think I have seen before when I was a student.
Bonus I was asked by the main professors handling the ICPC program to look at past Asia regional contest and see which sites have the best ratio for maths-related problem, which is the current strong suite of our top team.
