I am now currently using MacBook Pro 16”. And I don’t like it. My next computer is definitely going to be Linux (probably POP OS!).
I got a MacBook Pro 16” for free. It is one of the fastest machine I have (as I was using an ultrabook prior to this), so I am definitely using it. My works are almost exclusively on a software that available on both Linux and macOS, so that is not a problem. My entire life is on Dropbox, so that get set up pretty quickly too.
My problem is responsiveness. I just find macOS slow. I have heard praise about the responsiveness of macOS, so that may be why I am very disappointed. But still, I think my older, much slower laptop running Ubuntu is much faster.
Yes, the system feel fast with the default setting. But that is because it took time with the animation. As someone who disabled all animations in both Windows and Linux, that is frustrating. The animation cannot really be disabled. Some can be made faster, like dialog box, but it still takes the same time until it become properly interactive. The most frustrating for me is the Save/Load dialogue — it’s really slow.
Some thing I have taken for granted in other OS are also just impossible in macOS, or it is so well hidden I cannot find it. One thing I used a LOT previously and is just not possible in macOS is to select file ordering criteria in Load/Save dialogue. Come on! I guess no normal people would find that important, but I do – the last modified date served as an important metadata for me. This is especially true when you are uploading multiple file as the order the file are uploaded depend on the sorting criteria of the load dialogue.
I have adapted now, but I would definitely not select macOS if I can choose.
At least it is still most POSIX.
